Locked In Lower Power Rates
The easiest entry into renewable resources and to achieve lower power rates in California is through a power purchase agreement (PPA). At its core, this is a way to break free from the ever-rising costs of energy through the public utility company. This contract allows you to have a solar array that meets your energy needs at a $0 cost to you. Instead of taking out a loan to finance the array, our team will install, maintain, and manage it, then provide you power at a cost significantly less than the rates California residents receive from the public utility providers.
That is an overview of how a power purchase agreement works. To further explain the details of how Green Choice Energy provides energy independence to your home, we have provided additional information here. If you have more questions, our representatives are available to assist, educate, and schedule your installation. Speak to a representative now.
Solar Panel Purchase & Installation
Green Choice Energy covers all the costs. We pay for the solar panel array, the installation, and all associated fees and permits to have it properly installed and inspected. While some companies charge a flat fee to cover some of these costs, we don’t. Compared to purchasing a system outright or financing the purchase of one, this allows for the biggest savings for homeowners. Unlike our competitors, this doesn’t mean we charge you more; it means we make less by making you happy.
Green Energy Generation
Your renewable energy source generates electricity for all your needs through the conversion of sunlight via the panels and a converter connected to your electrical panel. When the sun is shining, it is pulled directly into your home. Excess energy is pushed into the grid, creating a bank of energy. After the sun goes down, or on those rare rainy days, that excess energy is pulled from that bank. This means that you are using the green, renewable energy you produced at any time of the day or night. In the rare instance that you use more energy than the array produces and has banked, the grid seamlessly continues to provide you with energy without fail.
Maintenance, Monitoring & Repairs
The homeowner is not responsible for maintaining the solar array on their property. They also are not liable for any repairs, replacements, or parts needed for the system to perform optimally or efficiently. All of the solar array system’s parts, service, and function fall under the Green Choice Energy umbrella of service. This has truly set us apart from our competitors and allowed us to be the premier power purchase agreement provider in California. We take care of everything.
Billing & Payment
One of the biggest questions regarding activating a power purchase agreement is the billing and payments. Each homeowner will continue to receive a monthly power bill, the difference being that it will come from us and be at a lower power rate per kWh. This rate will be one that you have agreed upon. It may increase over time, but rather than being surprised with regular rate increases, you can count on a lower, fixed rate and slower, incremental increases.
The Agreement Terms
The homeowner and the energy provider agree on the terms of the PPA, including the duration of the agreement, the price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity generated, and any other relevant terms and conditions. The per kWh cost is a lower power rate than public utilities. These fixed terms are most common for 20 years, but other terms may be arranged based on your specific case and needs. Our ability to arrange flexible terms has made us a leader in PPA for California.
Do I Still Need a Utility Account?
Yes. With any renewable energy, solar or wind power, your home must still be connected to the utility grid. In the rare instance that you have a truly off-the-grid situation, you will need to have an extensive generator setup to ensure that excess energy remains available to you, and that other resources fill the gaps of your energy needs.
Overall, a Power Purchase Agreement provides homeowners with a cost-effective way to access renewable energy, lower power rates, and be less dependent on public utilities without the need for a large upfront investment or incurred liability in solar panels or other renewable energy systems. It allows homeowners to save money on their electricity bills immediately, feel good about using clean energy, and reduce their carbon footprint all at the same time.
